Lions promoting health awareness
Lions Club Blantyre has embarked on an initiative to sensitise workers in various sectors of the importance of having periodic health check-ups to ensure that they continue to be productive and in the process take a significant role in the development of the country.
The grouping has mobilised resources to provide free health checks to some sections of the society and was last week conducting the exercise at Bakhresa Grain and Milling Company.
The club’s Public Relations Officer, Ruth Walker-Jiyani, said the initiative is part of the Lions Club agenda to reach out to the less privileged through works of charity.
“November is diabetes awareness month and this is one of the activities on our yearly agenda. We do on-site screening and where necessary, advise those that have been tested to visit the hospital to get necessary treatment,” she said.
Bakhresa Human Resources Manager, Luke Dzimbiri, said the company also encourages its staff to be aware of their health status hence did not hesitate to accept the invitation from the club.
One of the beneficiaries, Hamilton Chikwawa, thanked Lions Club for the initiative.
