Malawi Professional Boxing Control Board (MPBCB) President Lonzoe ‘Defector’ Zimba donated items to over 100 needy people in Mchinji.
The items, valued at K2 million, included maize flour, soap and Orange squash.
Over 100 people in Mduwa Village, in Traditional Authority Mduwa benefitted from the gesture.
Zimba said the donation was part of his birthday and festive period celebration.
“I was born on December 19. So I had to reach out to the less privileged to commemorate my birthday and also join them in celebrating the festive season,” he said.
The African Boxing Union Executive Member said the donation did not mean that he had much but wanted to share with others during the festive season.
“It is a thing which I do each year. I only rotate the villages,” he said.
One of the beneficiaries Muonenje Faindani hailed Zimba for the gesture, saying the community needed such people.
“The donation is coming at a good time when we are in festive season. We wish more rich people could emulate his example,” he said.
In August, Zimba donated maize bags to about 59 professional boxers in the country as a relief following Covid-19 pandemic.
