Lonzoe Zimba for boxing fee reduction
Malawi Professional Boxing Control Board (MPBCB) President, Lonzoe Zimba, has promised to lobby for a reduction in sanctioning fees when local promoters bid to stage World Boxing Council (WBC) recognised fights.
“I will also ask them to help us find partners who can team up with local promoters to organise title fights. We have the potential to win belts and we can do this if we fight at home,” said Zimba, speaking on Saturday before departure for Baku, Azerbaijan, to attend a WBC convention.
He added that local promoters were failing to host international title fights due to lack of funding.
Recently, boxer Chimwemwe Chiotcha said he was failing to raise K4 million to enable him challenge for a continental belt.
WBC President, Mauricio Sulaiman, has reportedly invited Zimba to the convention following disagreements between the board and Malawi Boxing Association over the sanctioning of professional fights.
The disagreements have divided boxers.
