Lovemore Fazili happy with Silver start

Two first half goals from Mike Robert and Green Harawa helped 10-member Silver Strikers get a flying -start to the TNM Super League second round as they beat Mzuni 2-0 at Mzuzu Stadium on Sunday.

Silver assistant coach, Lovemore Fazili, was happy with what he saw in the Bankers, who struck first through defender Robert inside the opening 17 minutes with a simple finish.

Mzuni were not demoralised as they tried to re-organise themselves. Ten minutes later, Mzuni won a free-kick through Victor Gondwe, but it went over the bar.

Against the run of play, Harawa struck for Silver to make it 2-0 on the 42nd minute.

Sensing danger, Mzuni who finished 13th in the first round, made several substitutions; bringing in left-back Hardson Milanzi, formerly of Mponera United, Victor Gondwe and striker Pilirani Mdhuli for Davie Moyo, but the changes paid no dividends.

Silver, hunting for more goals, had to bring in striker Rodrick Gonani for defender Lameck Kachimanga and Peter Wadabwa for Tizgowele Kumwenda. However, the visitors were dealt a big blow as referee Misheck Juba red-carded midfielder Sam Gunda for a second bookable offence.

Silver defended their lead to frustrate Mzuni, whose coach Alex Ngwira said his charges played well and were just unfortunate to lose.

“I am very happy to collect three points which has taken our tally to 23 points. It’s a morale-booster to our game against Moyale on Monday [yesterday],” Fazili told the press.
