As a way of contributing to the national research agenda, the Lilongwe University of Agriculture and Natural Resources (Luanar) has inaugurated a post-graduate symposium.
According to Luanar Vice Chancellor Emmanuel Kaunda, hundreds of Luanar post-graduates will be showcasing their technological inversions and getting feedback from stakeholders.
Opening the symposium in Lilongwe at Luanar Bunda campus, Kaunda said Luanar is doing something on research but with challenges the country is facing, they need to do more to provide solutions to immediate problems as everything is changing.
Kaunda also revealed that they are in the process of establishing a radio station as they have already received a licence from the Malawi Communications Regulatory Authority.
“There is no country in the world that has graduated from research; you cannot expect us to survive in this continent if we don’t do research.’ he said
Luanar Director of Research and Outreach Sam Katengeza said the post-graduate symposium will enhance visibility of the research they do, what the school has at present, what sort of research they are doing and what impact they are making in the country.
“These graduates can solve a lot of problems, a recent example being as the country is still struggling with army worms, post graduate students are working on research to come up with a technology which will use indigenous materials to solve this problem and you will hear about it soon.” he said
