Lucius Banda, better known as Soldier, who is the Sand Music Festival Director on Sunday gave out some free tickets to people for the three-day festival at Sunbird Livingstonia in Salima.
The festival starts on October 28 through to October 30.
Lucius gave out 10 tickets during a show at New Village House in Blantyre where he performed for more than three hours.
The show started late around 7 o’clock in the evening but it went all the way to the early hours of Sunday with Lucius closing the chapter.
The musician engaged the patrons in a quiz and those who answered correctly got the free tickets.
He said the free tickets were part of giving a chance to more people to attend the festival which will be headlined by Tanzania’s star Diamond.
“We want you to be part of this festival and this is why I thought we should give out the free tickets but you will find your own accommodation and transport,” Lucius said.
He also said that apart from Diamond headlining the festival, they also will have Jamaica’s Turbulence whose confirmation was made late hence not being included in the first poster.
“There are two posters currently on the ground; this is because Jamaica’s artist Turbulence was drafted in late and since we had already made the first poster we decided to come up with the second poster,” he said.
Lucius also said that apart from international acts which also include Zambia’s General Kanene, Organised Family and South Africa’s Zihle Ngidi of Trademark famed for the hit Shumaya, the festival also will feature several local acts.
“We have several local acts you know, the only artist we always struggle to get is Joe Gwaladi and those who can get hold of him, tell him he is wanted alive at Sand Music Festival,” Lucius said.
The artists that warmed up the stage before Lucius performed include Lambanie Dube and Sam Simakweli.
The poster for the show had also indicated that Nepman and Organised Family would perform but they did not a development that disappointed fans.
But Lucius told the audience that Organised Family had informed them that they would not make it hence they announced it on the radio before the show.
As for Nepman, Lucius said he had other engagements in Lilongwe.
Meanwhile the artist said yesterday that all is set for the festival and that everything was in its place.
“The tickets are selling right now and we urge people to go and buy original tickets in the different platforms we have set up. For those who cannot then they can use TNM Mpamba or National Bank’s Mo626,” he said.
Lucius also revealed that artists will start arriving today with the first being Organised Family then General Kanene tomorrow followed by Turbulence and South African artists on Thursday and then Diamond, who will perform at the festival on Saturday.
“There will be a lot of things, we also have boxing as you are aware and beach soccer. All we are saying is that we will be active throughout and we want to make sure that people enjoy the festival from day one today three,” he said.
