Lulu drops single, hails Nyasa Music Awards

Lulu—real name Lawrence Khwitsa—has released a single titled ‘Chilele’.

The youthful singer, guitarist, composer and producer has won the hearts of many people with his music.

Last year he came out to say that he was rebranding himself having not taken his career seriously in the past years.

The single was released on Sunday barely two days after he was decorated with the Best Secular Artist Award during the inaugural Nyasa Music Awards held at Comesa Hall in Blantyre on Friday.

“I worked hard working on this single and actually I had to create a choir. I am happy with the song and I hope people will love it just like I enjoyed working on it,” Lulu said.

He has released several love songs and ‘Chilele’ adds to this collection.

“The song is packaged with different stories. Basically the stories are coming from what I see in my day to day life and what I have heard,” he said.

With five albums to his credit, namely Mbambande, Kumalembe, Sindilora, Mwayenera and Ndakudziwa, Lulu said the release of the single is to give people a feel of his incoming album.

“People should just look out for a sweet album coming, but for now I have a single they can enjoy. I just want to thank my fellow producers BFB, Erik Paliani and Sley for the love and knowledge that we share,” said the musician.

Lulu said he produced the single at his Mathumela Studio in Lilongwe.

The artist has not moved away from his style in the song and he stands out with the vocals backed by the choir.

He advises in the song that people should be cautious when getting into relationships as they may end up regretting.

Lulu sticks to the saying that all that glitters is not gold.

He likens some men or women to a snake known as chilele which in appearance looks innocent and loving, yet they are destroyers.

Lulu also took time out to thank the organisers of Nyasa Music Awards for decorating artists.

“We need these awards because they motivate us to do well. I am thankful for the award and fans for voting for me and most of all I thank God for the talent,” he said.

Lulu said despite the various gaps, the organisers have done well and that they need to be encouraged to come out bigger and better next year.
