Lusubilo Band from Karonga District quietly flew to Korea, where they will stay for ten days.

The youthful musical group was invited to Korea by the Korean Ministry of Culture.

Lusubilo Music Centre Director, Agnes Kim, said in an interview that the invitation is part of a programme targeting youthful artists, adding that it is part of a series of activities ahead of the Winter Olympic Games 2018 in Korea.

Kim said the programme was part of the Art Dream Camp and Performance.

“The team is excited with another Korea trip. They will join the youth from Columbia, Indonesia, Vietnam and we are the only one from Africa,” Kim said.

“We need such programmes if our youth are to grow. This will give them a chance to interact with other youth and share ideas and, at the same time, perform to a different audience,” Kim said.

Lusubilo also went to Korea in 2015, holding performances and producing a DVD of their album Africa Inuka.

The group has impressed with its performances since it was established through the Lusubilo Music Centre.

In September last year, it stole the limelight during the Lake of Stars Festival held at Chintheche Inn, Nkhata Bay.

Lusubilo last year also collaborated with a German group, Andromeda Express, and Ulimba from Nsanje in a ‘What Boundaries Project’ that saw them holding performances in Malawi and Germany.
