Lusubilo Band set to hold free show in Karonga
Karonga–based group Lusubilo Band starts its countrywide tour with a free performance at Karonga Museum Saturday afternoon.
And this being the group’s home, Lusubilo Band decided to hold a free concert that will also feature Tiwonge Hango creator of the song ‘Mama Africa.’
“We thought we should start the countrywide tour in Karonga which is our home and just to bring people together and appreciate our music. Again we want to take this opportunity to sell the copies of the DVD Sing for Hope which features performances in South Korea,” said Lusubilo Music Centre Coordinator Manasseh Chisiza.
Lusubilo which has a brass section performed in South Korea live last year at the National Theatre.
After a free show in Karonga, the band which has impressed people with their live performances will then perform at Mzuzu Boma Park on Sunday.
In Mzuzu, Lusubilo is expected to share the stage once again with Tiwonge Hango.
The award winning group, which was voted the Best Band in the 2014 Music Malawi (Muma) Awards spearheaded by Media Corp and Trocadero Consulting in partnership with Musicians Union of Malawi (Mum), will also perform in Blantyre at Mibawa Café on August 15 and Lilongwe Golf Club on August 16.
In Blantyre Lusubilo will perform with Edgar ndi Davis Band as well as veteran Giddes Chalamanda.
Lusubilo Band which fuses traditional dances with Jazz went to Korea led by Professor Agnes Kim, who has been instrumental in establishing Lusubilo Music Centre in Karonga.
Lusibilo Band which won the Chibuku Road to Fame in 2012 held three concerts in Korea is determined to offer more to Malawians.
Their afro-Jazz and pop DVD features several songs including their top track ‘Africa Inuka. The other songs are ‘Kachitsa,’ ‘Kalonga,’ ‘Asimenye,’ and Lupakisho while the jazz songs include ‘Colonial Mentality,’ ‘ 4 on 6,’ ‘Purple Gazelle,’ ‘Song for my father,’ and ‘Papa Frado.’
