Mabvuto Lungu specialises in helping teams earn promotion

Malawi National Football Team and Nyasa Big Bullets legendary midfielder Mabvuto ‘Tigana’ Lungu is slowly becoming a specialist in helping regional teams earn TNM Super League promotion.

This follows confirmation from Southern Region Football Association (SRFA) that Lungu’s team Bangwe All Stars have automatically made it into the Super League after Nyasa Big Bullets Reserve qualified for the final of the Thumbs Up Premier Division.

SRFA chairperson Raphael Humba said Bangwe have made it into the elite league as Bullets Reserve are not eligible because their seniors are already in the competition.

The development means Lungu will once again see his charges competing in the Super League after a similar achievement with Nchalo United in the 2017/18 season.

The former Bullets coach attributed his ability to guide teams to top flight league qualification to various factors.

“I value hard work, dedication and self-belief. Also, football is about preparation. Good preparation brings out good results and bad preparations are a recipe for disaster and failure. I also believe in the youth. That’s where football is nowadays,” he said.

Bangwe owner Mphatso Jika said he started with a social team in 2021 before recruiting younger players to compete in the regional league.

“We have not been around for long but we have already managed what many teams have failed in many years. I am very proud of the coach and his players. I am now fully prepared to help them perform well in the Super League. The big teams should watch out,” Jika said.
