MacDonald Mtetemera adamant

Dwangwa United coach, MacDonald Mtetemera, has refused to throw in the towel on the team’s TNM Super League relegation battle.

In a post-match interview after his side’s home 0-0 draw against defending champions, Nyasa Big Bullets, on Sunday Mtetemera praised his charges for the fighting spirit.

“A draw is better than a loss and I am really happy with the performance of the players. We had a bad first round but it is too early to give up,” he said.

In the first round, the rookies only managed two away victories against Civo United and Azam Tigers at Civo Stadium and Kamuzu Stadium, respectively.

Dwangwa failed to register a home win in the first round. The rookies are 14th on the log table with 11 points, at par with Karonga United, but the latter has an inferior goal difference.

Max Bullets anchor the 16-team league table with seven points after claiming a single 3-2 victory over Mafco and four draws.

Rookies barely survive relegation in the league beyond a season of promotion.

Last season, only Mzuni FC survived as Dedza Young Soccer and Wizards were demoted to the lower leagues, but Wizards retained their Super League status through controversial play-offs.
