Macdonald Mtetemera takes on former employers

Chitowe Stadium was, for one-and-half years, coach Macdonald Mtetemera’s home, but today he returns to the Dwangwa venue as an antagonist.

A month after being suspended then sacked as Dwangwa United coach due to poor performance, Mtetemera returns to the Nkhotakota venue while in charge of Blantyre United.

Therefore, the match between Dwangwa United and Blantyre United will, surely, be among the highlights when the TNM Super League second-round rolls into action today.

It is Mtetemera’s first game in charge of Blantyre United before facing Mafco at the same venue tomorrow.

Nevertheless, Mtetemera said he was not under pressure returning to Dwangwa.

“It will be a normal game. My target is to get three points from this game. It does not matter that Dwangwa was recently my home because I am now into a new challenge. I need to impress my new employers,” said Mtetemera who helped Dwangwa United survive relegation last year.

A win is not optional for both teams who each have 11 points, with Blantyre United a step above Dwangwa United on goal-aggregate.

Dwangwa United, who are on position 15, defeated Blantyre United 2-1 at their backyard in the first-round hence Mtetemera has been tasked with exacting revenge.

Having finished the league’s first-round with a surprise 3-0 victory over defending champions, Kamuzu Barracks, Dwangwa’s interim Coach, Lloyd Nkhwazi, said his team wants to start the second-round on a high.

“To start the second-round with a win would boost our morale. We beat them at their home and facing them at our home will be an advantage to us. But we are aware of what they are capable of doing,” Nkhwazi said.

Set-piece specialist Jack Chiona is expected to lead Dwangwa United whereas Jiddy Mbandambanda can inspire Blantyre United to victory.
