Lilongwe-based Madalitso Band, the duo of Yosefe Kalekeni and Yobu Maligwa, is now in the United Kingdom, where they are holding their last gigs before they return home on July 18.

The group’s co-manager Neil Nayar said Thursday it has been a hectic schedule of their fifth European tour, which started last month.

“It has been hectic and crazy, moving from one place to the other and we have had to travel long distances but, with all that said, it has been fun and Madalitso Band has performed to the best and sold Malawi to the world as usual with their traditional sounds,” Nayar said.

As of Thursday, Madalitso Band had held 48 concerts.

“We are having last shows in the United Kingdom, we have already done four and four are remaining before the boys fly back home,” he said.

Nayar said Madalitso Band, which comes from the outskirts of Mtandire, has also had a chance of being at the BBC and that their interview will air on BBC Radio 3 in September 2022.

Apart from the United Kingdom, Madalitso Band has also had performances in France and Switzerland.

Their European tour has also seen Madalitso Band releasing a new album Musakayike.

The album, which was released via Bongo Joe has already been featured by www.folkradio.co.uk.

Their music projects started with Fungo la Nyemba before dropping Wasalala in 2019, which was released on Les Disques Bongo Joe label.

The eight-track album whose title Musakayike translates to “do not doubt us”, has been described by Folk Radio as high-energy and infectious in the extreme, although the subject matter laments upon the harshness of daily life in Malawi, described as one of the world’s poorest countries, alongside thoughts on love, romance and success.
