Madalitso Band gears for Sounds of Malawi

Lilongwe-based group Madalitso Band will Thursday debut at Sounds of Malawi Acoustic Session at Jacaranda Cultural Centre (JCC) in Blantyre.

Sounds of Malawi Acoustic sessions return to the fold at JCC after a long break due to Covid.

The duo of Yobu Maligwa and Yosefe Kalekeni has performed in different platforms both local and international showcasing the best of traditional sound.

The group’s co-manager Neil Nayar said Tuesday the band is ready for their first performance at Sounds of Malawi Acoustic Session.

“Yobu Maligwa and Yosefe Kalekeni have been playing music together for so long and so they are looking forward to share their music,” Nayar said.

The duo last weekend went to Senga Bay in Salima where they filmed a 45-minute live concert.

“This performance will be screened at Maailama Kylassa World Village Festival in Finland end this month. It’s been hard for the group as, last year, they were supposed to tour Europe but they failed due to Covid,” Nayar said.

Meanwhile, Nayar has said the group is set to release a single titled ‘Katangale’ today.

“Last year there were two singles ‘Sitimamenya’ in collaboration with Tik Tu from Ukraine and ‘Ndalakwanji’ which was released through Swiss label Bongo Joe,” he said.

Nayar said ‘Katangale’ is aimed at a local audience.

“We even had the artwork done by one of the famous cartoonists Ralph Mawera. Our only hope for ‘Katangale’ is that it will get to the people of Malawi in all the corners,” Nayar said.

He said, with things starting to open up, they were hoping for the best this year in terms of tours in Europe.

“Madalitso means blessings and that is what we hope for once again and we are looking to continue selling Malawi to the world,” Nayar said.
