Madalitso Band to live stream show

Lilongwe-based musical group Madalitso Band, the duo of Yobu Maligwa and Yosefe Kalekeni, will this coming Saturday hold a live stream concert as part of a raising funds for their musical projects.

Due to Covid-19 pandemic, the group this year has failed to hold performances in international festivals in Europe.

“You’ve seen us perform in Europe, Zimbabwe and Zanzibar, but this weekend, we invite you to a live stream concert from the streets of Lilongwe. It will take place at 2:30pm UK time and you will be able to watch from your website,” reads the information on the fundraising concert.

The live stream concert with a virtual hat will take place at Mbowe in Lilongwe according to one of the group’s co-manager’s Emmanuel Kamwenje.

“They will be playing in the street and so, we will set up at Mbowe,” Kamwenje said.

Manager Neil Nayar, who has always travelled with the group outside the country, said they were hoping to raise enough money through the show and that people will have to contribute towards the concert.

“It’s been a crazy year for everyone and no different here. We’re all looking forward to the tour of 2021 but for now we’re on with the grind,” Nayar said.

This is the first live stream concert for the group.

From the country’s capital city Lilongwe and Mtandire to be particular, little known Madalitso Band, has made itself a name and has represented Malawi at international shows.

Recently the group was part of the third online festival known as Intercity Live.

The broadcast of the festival took place on YouTube channel of popular Ukrainian show Television Toronto.

Madalitso Band recently also released a single titled ‘Sitimamenya’, which they collaborated with a Ukrainian band.
