Lilongwe-based group Madalitso Band, the duo of Yobu Maligwa and Yosefe Kalekeni, is back on the international ladder and will this time tour France.
Having failed to make Europe tours last year due to Covid, the duo is all smiles as it is expected to leave the country on Sunday for France.
The group’s co-manager Neil Nayar, who is also a musician, confirmed of the France tour Wednesday.
“We have just been issued visas now but they are in Pretoria, South Africa. So we miss today’s (Wednesday’s) flight and that means we will also miss the first two concerts. We will flying probably on Sunday,” Nayar said.
Nayar said it will be a different experience for Madalitso to perform in Europe during this Covid period.
“Yobu and Yosefe have been practising hard and they are looking forward to the tour and flying Malawi’s flag. I will be their driver to take them to different venues,” he said.
Madalitso Band goes on the France tour having released a new single titled ‘Katangale’. This is a track in which the duo tackles the issue of corruption which is rampant in the country.
According to their itinerary, the duo is set to perform in a number of places in France including Lille and Lyon.
Madalitso is expected back on August 10 2021.
Their tour of France has forced them to miss Sounds of Malawi Acoustic Session today at Jacaranda Cultural Centre (JCC) in Blantyre.
The duo re-launched Sounds of Malawi Acoustic Session, which returned after Covid break, and thus were supposed to be part of a showcase which features acts such as Waliko Makhala, Codi, Mzati and Kefasi.
