Madalitso Ziwaoh uses coffee to paint

Balaka-based visual artist Madalitso Ziwaoh continues to up his game as, over the weekend, he showed people the beauty of art through artworks painted using coffee.
Coffee is a drink prepared from roasted coffee beans and is loved by many just like tea but Ziwaoh decided to use coffee in a different way and that is art.
Having launched an exhibition at The Culture Lab in Lilongwe last weekend, Ziwaoh also took time out to go on a live painting assignment at Latitude in the same city, where he embarked on painting using coffee.
“Many people love coffee including myself and I have friends who are producing coffee in the country including Namikango coffee. So, I thought of using coffee to produce artworks or any coffee-related artworks as one way of appreciating Malawi’s products,” he said.
“It is process for us to have coffee; it starts in the garden and then where it is processed and then to the consumer. And I decided to respect all this work by creating artworks using coffee,” he said.
He said he was using coffee in the same way he paints using water colours.
“The only difference is in the technique; otherwise, I am exploring new things and this is what art is all about. I want, through all this, people to give art attention and value it,” Ziwaoh said.
