Mafco FC ‘dump’ Chitowe Ground
Mafco FC have requested Super League of Malawi (Sulom) to allow the Malawi Defence Force team host this weekend’s TNM Super League match against Be Forward Wanderers at Civo Stadium in Lilongwe.
The move is aimed at helping the soldiers maximise gate revenue from the game involving the crowd-pullers.
Mafco were supposed to face Wanderers at Chitowe Ground on Sunday.
According to a letter dated June 10 2017 and signed by the club’s
General Secretary, Jimmy Kondwani Chisenga, Mafco is unsatisfied with gate revenue from Chitowe.
Sulom General Secretary, Williams Banda, said he has no problem with Mafco’s request as each team has two options for home venues.
Mafco are ranked on fourth position on the log table with 10 points from five matches.
Wanderers General Secretary, Mike Butao, yesterday said they were comfortable with Mafco’s proposal.
“At Chitowe, we cannot only make a quarter or half of what we can make by playing at Civo Stadium, so we welcome the move as, with Kamuzu Stadium closed, we are spending a lot,” Butao said.
