Mafco FC eye top spot
As the battle for the championship rages on in the TNM Super League, Mafco stand a chance to lead the table as they host bottom-placed MTV Max Bullets at Chitowe Ground this afternoon.
However, as of yesterday there were doubts on the game following reports that Max Bullets have disbanded
With 41 points from 22 games, the Salima-based soldiers cannot afford to lose to the relegation-threatened Max Bullets who anchor the table with eight points from 21 games.
Mafco need just one point to temporarily displace current leaders, Silver Strikers, who also have a daunting task against second-placed Nyasa Big Bullets tomorrow in Lilongwe. Silver have 42 points from 22 games.
Banking their hope on their hitman, Richard Mbulu upfront and captain, Paul Ndhlovu at the back, the Thomas Maloya’s boys have registered a win, a draw and a loss in the last three consecutive games.
Mbulu is the top scorer with 18 goals. On the other hand, Max Bullets are on a losing streak despite displaying fantastic football in recent matches. However, playing away puts the rookies at a disadvantage. Max Bullets defeated Mafco 3-2 in the first round.
Elsewhere, Moyale Barracks have a daunting task as they host Blue Eagles FC. Eagles can go top temporarily with a win in the event that Mafco lose.
Playing without injured captain, Gastin Simkonda, Moyale will bank on players such as Khuda Muyaba, Lovemore Mitengo, Crispin Fukizi and Boyboy Chima.
Moyale are on position eight with 33 points from 20 games, whereas Eagles are on position five with 39 points from 21 games.
In another match, Kamuzu Barracks take on another struggling side, Premier Bet Wizards, at MDC Stadium in Blantyre, while Civo United welcome Mzuni FC.
