The battle for the TNM Super League leadership enters an exciting phase this weekend with epic battles lined up across the country.

The pick of the week will be the match involving ninth-placed Be Forward Wanderers and second-placed Mafco at Chitowe Stadium on Saturday.

In another potentially-explosive encounter, third-positioned Silver Strikers host Mzuni FC at Silver Stadium on Saturday in Lilongwe.

With leaders Blue Eagles on bye this weekend, victory for Mafco would drive them top of the league table whereas Silver can also have a chance to go top if they beat Mzuni and the soldiers fail to win against Wanderers.

Straight from their impressive 4-0 victory over rookies, Karonga United, last weekend, Wanderers are hoping to mount a serious title in the second round.

Wanderers have a score to settle against Mafco having lost at home to the soldiers 1-3 in the first round, in what was the Nomads’ first defeat of the season.

Head-to-head record shows that Wanderers have an edge over Mafco in meetings at Chitowe whereas the Salima soldiers usually find it easy to beat the Nomads at Kamuzu Stadium.

Wanderers claimed maximum points against Mafco at Chitowe Stadium last season, courtesy of Cameroonian, Lionel Atsu’s brace.

But Nomads Assistant Coach, Elijah Kananji, knows that a loss would compromise their title aspirations.

Wanderers have not won the league’s championship since 2006.

“We are not scared at all and we are going to Dwangwa to grab all the points. Mafco play attacking football,” he said.

Mafco gaffer, Thomas Maloya, was brimming with confidence that they will ascend to the top of the league summit.

“We will play our usual passing game. We want to maintain our pace in the league and stay in the top-four,” he said.

Peter Wadabwa, Joseph Kamwendo and Jafali Chande have been in top form for Wanderers whereas Richard Mbulu, Saidi Mtekama and Joseph Dosah are potential match winners for the soldiers.

The Nomads have 28 points whereas Mafco are second with 34 points.

Wanderers will complete their Chitowe trip with a tricky fixture against Dwangwa tomorrow at the same venue.

In another game today, struggling Civo United face Karonga at Mzuzu Stadium.
