Mafco FC thrash Azam Tigers
Mafco FC returned to winning ways after using their chances to beat Azam Tigers 3-2 in an exciting TNM Super League first-round game played at Chitowe Stadium on Saturday.
Victor Mpinganjira scored the opener barely a minute into the game before Kingsley Nkhonjera increased the lead for Mafco two minutes later.
It was a balanced game that saw Tigers trying to fight back but their efforts were in vain.
Striker Peter Kasonga reduced the deficit from a spot kick in the 70th minute after a Mafco defender had handled the ball in the danger zone.
But the soldiers put the game beyond the visitors’ reach a minute later when Tigers’ Clifton Kankhuni scored an own goal.
Luka Milanzi’s 78th minute goal for Tigers was too late and too little for the visitors
After the game, Mafco Coach, Temwa Msuku, praised his charges for their tactical discipline.
“Our emphasis in this game was on tactical discipline. In the previous games, we were playing well but we were not good enough defensively, so after rectifying these problems, we have won the game,” Msuku said.
Tigers’ Technical Director, Robin Alufandika, blamed off-pitch incidences for the defeat.
“Yesterday, we were denied access to this venue [and] so this disturbed my players. And coming into the game, there was a lot of time-wasting but the referee did nothing. So, these small things can affect a team,” Alufandika said.
