TNM Super League’s second-placed Mafco welcome in-form Fisd Wizards Saturday at Chitowe Stadium in Dwangwa, Nkhota- Kota District in a second-round game of contrasting missions.
Wizards might still be bottom on 18 points from 22 games, but the recent form of the Peter Mponda-led charges, particularly the last four games, suggest that they will not go down easily.
After defying Silver Strikers to a 2-2 draw, the rookies have at their home of Kalulu Stadium beaten Kamuzu Barracks 1-0 and Airborne Rangers 2-1.
However, playing away has its own dynamics.
And Wizards, who will be without captain Levison Maganizo, currently with the national football team at the 2015 Cecafa Senior Challenge Cup in Ethiopia, will find out if they can hold their own in Dwangwa.
Mponda and Wizards chairperson, Mike Tembo, have been consistent in their optimism that they will survive the chop, and it is games such as today’s that would provide a test of character and resolve.
Wizards should be wary of the modest, but resolute Mafco, who came from behind to beat hands down fellow soldiers Red Lions 3-1 a fortnight ago.
On 40 points from 23, game, Mafco are determined to stick into the top-four band of the league. In coach Thomas Maloya, Mafco have a good strategist capable of surprising opponents.
On the pitch, Kalisto Kalinda will lead Mafco’s attack with the help of Saidi Mtekama, with Maurice Chiumia and Paul Ndlovu making play happen on the middle and in defence respectively.
