Malawi women’s under-20 national football team coach, Maggie Chombo, is optimistic her charges will sail through to the next round of the 2021 Fifa World Cup qualifiers.
Chombo said despite drawing at home against Zimbabwe her charges still have chances to reach the next round.
“There are some positives which I have picked. I have the confidence that we can get a good result in Zimbabwe and progress. The good thing is that the tie is still wide open,” she said.
Malawi came from behind to force a one-all draw with visitors, Zimbabwe during the first leg at Kamuzu Stadium on Saturday.
Chombo said she will polish up the striking force and tighten the defence ahead of the return leg set for February 1 in Bulawayo, Zimbabwe.
“The way we created chances is enough to encourage us that we can do it in Zimbabwe. It is a matter of polishing up the striking for us to convert chances and tightening the defence to be water-tight,” he said.
Shyline Dambamuromo put the visitors in the lead in the 60th minute before the hosts replied in the dying minutes through Yamikani Mhango.
