Make use of chances—Meke Mwase
By Mphatso Malidadi:
Malawi under-23 national football team Coach, Meke Mwase, has said his charges must sort out scoring woes if they are to progress in the 2019 Egypt Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) qualifiers for their age-group.
“We certainly need to learn to turn our chances into goals. We need to sharpen our striking force so as to enhance our chances of making it to the next stage,” Mwase said after Tuesday’s afternoon training session at Kamuzu Stadium in Blantyre.

The coach also said preparations were on track and hoped that the proposed tour of Belgium would materialise so as to inspire the players.
“We started with non-residential training. We are now into full-time training. All players are in camp. We hope that we will go to Belgium because this will inspire the players to aim high and die a little for their country,” Mwase said.
The under-23 team hosts Zambia on March 20, followed by the return leg four days later in Lusaka.
The overall winner of the two legs dates Angola in the next round which will be followed by the final stage to determine Afcon finalists.
Top teams from the Afcon finals will qualify for the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games in Japan.
Mwase’s troops booted out Botswana 3-2 on aggregate, having won 2-1 away in Gaborone and drew 1-1 at home— Kamuzu Stadium.
Some of the exciting players in the squad are Peter Banda, Hassan Kajoke, Rabson Chiyenda, Brighton Munthali, Mark Fodya, Ernest Tambe, Gregory Nachipo, Hadji Wali, Isaac Kaliyati, Chimwemwe Idana and Francis Mkonda.
