Three local boxers underlined their credentials after defeating foreign opponents in international bouts held at M1 Centre Point in Lilongwe on Sunday.

Limbani Masamba was declared winner against Zambian Guy Tshimanga on points in the welterweight category.

Masamba described Tshimanga as one of the toughest boxers he has ever faced.

“He is an experienced boxer. It was not an easy bout for me but I showed that I am also a good boxer,” Masamba said.

The Malawian was later presented with a K50,000 cheque from B-Square Leisure Centre for his win.

Tshimanga said he will ask for a rematch.

“I have seen the way he fights and I want a rematch,” he said in brief response to the loss.

The result has taken Masamba’s record to 11 wins and eight losses whereas Tshimanga suffered his third defeat.

But the toast of the day was Israel Kam’mwamba who knocked out Zambian Emmanuel Kabwe in the fifth round.

It was a sweet revenge for Kam’mwamba who lost to the Zambian five years ago during the Zone VI Games in Lusaka.

In another bout, Aubrey Masamba won against Zimbabwean Tinashe Mwadziwana on points.

The bout was closely contested and some observers believed that a draw could have been a fair result.

The bouts were organised by New Dawn Boxing Promotions in conjunction with No Pain No Gain Boxing Promotions.
