Malawi Boxing Association (Maba) will drop Wilson Masamba from the list of professional boxers to take part in the forthcoming national tournament.
This follows the pugilist’s recent decision to dump Maba and join the Malawi Professional Boxing Control Board (MPBCB).
Maba and Masamba have confirmed the development.
Masamba was lined-up to face Mzuzu-based boxer Malani Kayuni at the Salima national event.
Masamba cited lack of “professional bouts” as one of the reasons that prompted him to cross the floor.
“MPBCB is affiliated to World Boxing Council (WBC) and that is one of the reasons I left. On the contrary, Maba is not recognised by the WBC and I was feeling out of place. If I cannot fight international bouts then I am nothing,” Masamba said.
According to Maba’s Professional Boxing Committee Chairperson, Daud Chikwanje, Masamba cannot compete under the association anymore.
“We will never entertain boxers who just change camps like that. We have plenty of boxers who are going to take up his place.
“And very soon we are going to release a final list of boxers, from all regions, who are going to take part in the tournament,” Chikwanje said.
The national tournament is slated from May 29 to 30.
