Malawi Congress Partymembers donate to patients

Main Opposition Malawi Congress Party (MCP) members from Maldeco and Makawa in Mangochi on Monday urged people in the country to support underprivileged people in order to help them contribute to the country’s social economic development.

The members made the remarks on Monday when they donated assorted items to patients at Koche Community Hospital as part of this year’s Eid Mubarak celebration.

The grouping’s Chairperson, Beston Saizi, explained that as responsible citizens, they believe that every Malawian has an obligation to reach out to the needy regardless of their party or religious affiliation.

“We have a lot of people that are suffering today and are in need of our support. We should acknowledge that when somebody is in hospital, there are many things which are required to aid quick recovery. Our donation today is meant go towards that area,” Saizi said.

The food items which comprised sugar, rice and laundry soap were sourced through the party members’ contribution. Saizi said that plans are under way to contribute more funds for other charitable activities considering that there are a lot of problems in the country’s public hospitals.

“We would like to engage in things which can prove that we are responsible party that holds the solution to the country’s problems. We are aware that the challenges facing Malawi today are man-made as such, we want to provide man-made solutions to the problems.

“But this will be possible when MCP starts ruling after the next tripartite elections because it seems the current administration is contented with power and not with providing the people’s needs,” he said.

One of the patients Alinafe Mwale, from Thumu thanked the MCP members for the donation which she said would go a long way in reducing her challenges considering that the hospital is privately owned where patients are required to fend for themselves.

The hospital’s Matron, Sister Micheline, expressed gratitude for the donation describing it as timely. She encouraged other well-wishers to emulate what the MCP members have done to support the underprivileged.
