BY Mphatso Malidadi:

Four Malawi Defence Force boxers will forget about their military ranks and be involved in non-title fights at M1 Centre Point in Lilongwe Sunday.

In the main fights, Chimwemwe Chiotcha will face Alick Mwenda in a middleweight eight-round contest whereas Chrispin Moliyati dates Wilson Masamba.

Chiotcha, 34, said he was ready to stop Mwenda halfway in the bout.

“I am not joking. I am going for a knockout and it has to happen by the middle rounds,” said the boxer, who has 15 wins, including 11 knockouts, eight defeats and a draw.

Mwenda, also aged 34, said he was not shaken by Chiotcha’s threats.

“Talk is cheap but when it comes to fighting, it is different. So, I have a small surprise for him,” he said.

Mwenda has seven wins, including two knockouts and 14 defeats.

In another main fight, Moliyati said he was in the mood to frustrate Masamba.

“He still thinks that he is still lethal so I just want to remind him that those days are gone,” he said.

But Masamba said he cannot lose to Moliyati.

“I will give my fans something to celebrate about,” he said.

Masamba, 34, has 29 wins, including 10 knockouts, 10 defeats and a draw whereas Moliyati, 28, has 22 wins with 10 knockouts, eight defeats and four draws.
