Malawi Defence Force organises cross-country
About 100 athletes from the Malawi Defence Force (MDF) will tomorrow battle it out in a cross- country at Gymkhana Club in Zomba.
MDF public information officer, Paul Chiphwanya, said the competition is aimed at identifying athletes to represent MDF in next month’s national cross-country.
“The competition also mixes work with pleasure. It acts as an interaction platform for soldiers who usually do not meet because they are in different units of MDF. At the same time, it will help in testing the endurance of our soldiers, who should be fit at all times,” he added.
Chiphwanya said the competition is an annual fixture that involves all units of the MDF which enhances interaction and understanding among the country’s military personnel.
There are 14 competing teams with each parading six participants.
MDF has budgeted K1.53 million for prizes in the men’s and women’s categories.
Winners will be judged by their individual and team performance.
