Malawi Defence Force (MDF) has described the performance of its TNM Super League teams— Kamuzu Barracks (KB), Moyale Barracks, Red Lions and Mafco—in the just-ended season as average.
MDF Public Relations Officer, Paul Chiphwanya, said, although KB won the Fisd Challenge Cup, the team’s league performance was unconvincing.
Mafco, who settled for sixth spot, amassed 44 points—the highest points’ tally among all MDF teams this season.
Moyale finished on seventh position, also with 44 points, whereas KB amassed 42 points.
Chiphwanya said after KB’s league title triumph last year, expectations were high from the MDF camp on its teams.
“Not convincing, I can say. Maybe, we can be glad that Red Lions escaped relegation, considering that they flirted with it for quite some time.
“In addition, two of our teams [KB and Moyale] were in a [Fisd Challenge] Cup final, which was commendable. But in the league, the performance was simply average,” he said
Lions secured ninth spot after collecting 40 points.
Moyale assistant Coach, Charles Kamanga, attributed their unsatisfactory league campaign to injuries of key players.
