BANDA—I am part of a band called Ethno on the road

Lilongwe-based youthful artist Gift Banda, who starred at Ethno Sweden in July this year, is back in Sweden and this time around for more performances.

Banda, who is a guitarist, is expected to stay in Sweden for close to three weeks.

“Last time it was a different setup all together but this time I am part of a band called Ethno on the road,” he said.

He added that last time he went with Jerusha Chipingo for the Ethno Sweden camp which was for only a week.

“We learned songs from about 12 countries and performed at two concerts and we were more than 100 who attended and out of that a few were selected to be part of a band,” Banda said.

He said he has happy to have been selected saying this will give him a chance to learn more.

As artists we need such opportunities because you are exposed to different audiences but also at the same time you acquire new skills for growth. As an artist I am still learning and expanding my base,” the guitarist, said.

In their first outing Banda and Jerusha were invited by the Jeunness Musicale Sweden through Ethno Sweden.

“It was an exciting one week outing in July that gave us an insight on how our friends are progressing with their music. Again we also shared our own stories on music and at the end of it all we also had performances and this being three weeks there will surely be alot,” Banda said.

Banda is from Music Crossroads Academy.

He started playing the guitar at the age of 17 learning mainly from YouTube and other resources he got from friends.
