The Malawi National Golf Team is beaming with confidence that it will triumph in the Tri-Nations International Golf Tournament underway at Lilongwe Golf Club (LGC).
The tournament started Thursday and ends tomorrow and involves host nation Malawi, Zambia and Zimbabwe.
Malawi National Golf Team Coach, Chris Kachiguma, said the players were in a good mood and determined to do well.
“We had comprehensive preparations and we believe this is our time to win. We are geared and ready for the tournament,” Kachiguma said.
The tournament has attracted female and male teams from all the three countries.
Golf Union of Malawi President, Frank Mvalo, was also optimistic that the team would triumph on home soil.
Meanwhile, the team received a timely boost yesterday when Alliance Capital Investments presented sets of uniforms.
The company donated three sets of uniforms to the ladies’ team and one to the men’s.
Malawi have never won the tournament since its inception 10 years ago, and the team’s best ever finish was second position in 2012.
The team comprises Whiteman Brown, Christopher Mzokomera, Ekari Mvula, Kelvin Mpanje, Aadil Parker, Rashid Salimu, Zita Rodrick, Jenipher Chitsanzo, Ganizani Lusho Tembo, Doreen Lazaro.
Royal and Ancient (R&A) sponsors the tournament, which Zimbabwe and Zambia have won seven times and twice, respectively.
