Malawi government hails MDF soldiers

Government has saluted Malawi Defence Force (MDF) soldiers for displaying discipline and professionalism during the one-year period that the group was in Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) on a special intervention mission.

Deputy Minister of Defence Jappie Mhango who welcomed the 850 groups of men and women at Kamuzu international Airport in Lilongwe on Tuesday said government was pleased with the conduct of the group.

Mhango said the soldiers represented the country well in all areas and deserve to be commended for a job well done.

“I’m here to give them a word of encouragement having served us well in DRC. The reports that we have been receiving are that our soldiers were very outstanding in their duties. You must understand that we have three countries there, Tanzania, South Africa and Malawi and the general crew in charge of the operation came from Malawi for their high rate of professionalism and discipline,” said Mhango.

Mhango also advised the group to remain faithful to their families and not indulge in behaviour that may endanger their lives.

The 850 soldiers left the country for DRC on June last year. Meanwhile another group of 850 troops left the country on Wednesday morning for the same mission.
