Malawi government has said it has embarked on an ambitious initiative to turn post offices into one-stop public service delivery centres.

Principal Secretary (PS) for Information, Tourism and Civic Education, Justin Saidi, made the statement Friday when he presided over the 2015 World Post Day Commemoration, a celebration of the post and courier sector at Euthini Health Centre in Mzimba.

The activity, celebrated under the theme ‘Importance of change for the postal sector to better meet the needs of government and citizens’, was attended by Times Courier, Malawi Posts Corporations, TNT, G4s, DHL, Skynet, Malawi Communications Regulatory Authority (Macra) among others.

Saidi said the initiative, which provides a single access point to information and service transactions, will come under the Public Sector Reforms Programme.

He said the move is in response to the inadequate access to public services by a large number of citizens due to limited service delivery options and penetration of service delivery touch points.

Said Saidi: “Service centres seek to bring together government services under one roof, leading to direct access and enhanced customer service, adherence to global standards, and service delivery turnaround times.”

Post Master General Andrew Kumbatira and DHL managing Director Gavyn Symons said Malawi has good business environment, hence more courier companies operating in the country.
