Malawi Has Talent launches in style

Times Group through Times Television in partnership with First Capital Bank (FCB) on Friday launched the Malawi Has Talent Season one at Amaryllis Hotel in Blantyre.

Deputy Minister of Local Government, Unity and Culture Owen Chomanika presided over the launch that attracted an impressive audience that included business captains and artists.

Chomanika hailed Times Television and FCB for bringing Malawi Has Talent.

“We salute Times and FCB for this initiative and through this platform, they are playing a greater role in growing the creative industry. The two have taken what I can call an executive courage to go into an area where most people would not dare to go,” Chomanika said.

He said the gesture by Times Group and FCB is a vote of confidence in the abilities of young people and their talents.

“We have said it many times before that Malawi is very rich in terms of the arts and cultural expressions and Malawi Has Talent will surely give wings to the imaginations of our artists in the country,” the deputy minister said.

Hosted by Times Television Programmes Manager Brian Banda, the launch which was wrapped with a number of activities, which included the unveiling of Malawi Has Talent billboard and theme song, also saw the unveiling of the judges for the show and they are Mr Entertainer Jai Banda, renowned poet Q Malewezi and gospel musician Wendy Harawa.

FCB Head of Marketing and Communication Twikale Chirwa said they were excited to launch Malawi Has Talent with Times Group.

“At FCB belief comes first. That is why we have partnered Times Group to launch this platform as part of unearthing talent that is there in Malawi but also showcase people that can use their talent to make money. There is massive talent in Malawi but it is not celebrated,” Chirwa said.

Times Group Sales Manager Alfred Kanjere said they were grateful to FCB for coming on board to support Malawi Has Talent.

“Over 250 have registered. The launch tells it all Let the show begin. We will announce dates for auditions shortly and we encourage people to follow all our platforms,” Kanjere said.

The show will see the winner walk away with K5 million, whereas second and third-place winners will receive K2 million and K1 million, respectively.
