Malawi heads southern Africa engineers’ body
Malawi Polytechnic engineering lecturer Ignasio Ngoma has taken over the presidency of the Southern African Federation of Engineering Organisations (Safeo).
Ngoma took over the Safeo leadership during a 5th Engineer’s Without Borders Conference which took place in Livingstone, Zambia last week.
Safeo is a network of multidisciplinary national eng ineer ing societ ies or institutions which currently represent the majority of Southern African Development Community countries as well as Ghana and some East African Development Community countries.
Following his ascendancy to the presidency of Safeo, Ngoma also automatically became a vice president of the Federation of African Engineering Associations.
MIE President Andrew Thawe, who led a Malawian delegation to the conference, s aid through knowledge sharing, engineers on the continent should be able to tackle some of the challenges professionals in individual countries are facing.
He said some of the challenges engineers are facing in individual countries are facing at the moment were already solved in other countries.
The conference, which started on Thursday and ended on Saturday, was opened by Zambian Vice President Inonge Wina who said African engineers need to collaborate beyond national and regional borders.
