Malawi Olympic Committee Annual General Meeting set for April 28
Malawi Olympic Committee (Moc) will hold its Annual General Meeting (AGM) on April 28 at Mount Soche Hotel in Blantyre.
The committee’s Public Relations Officer, Kythrina Phiri, said the AGM was important as it provides the platform for affiliates to endorse, reject or amend proposals from the board.
“The AGM is the decision-making body of the national Olympic Committee. At the AGM, the board reports activities that took place in the preceding year to affiliates who form the AGM. Decisions made at the AGM bind both the affiliates and the board alike,” she said.
Phiri added that such decisions determine the future of sports in the country since they are made by the highest decision-making body with affiliates from all over the country.
One of the issues to be discussed at the AGM is Team Malawi’s performance at the on-going 2018 Gold Coast Commonwealth Games as well as preparations for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics in Japan.
Ahead of this year’s Commonwealth Games, Moc selected sporting codes that qualified for the event, departing from the usual tradition of sending competitors on solidarity.
Delegates will also discuss how best to prepare for the 2020 Olympics to enable Team Malawi compete for medals.
