Malawi Queens’ coaches in fall-out

They sit next to each other while giving instructions to players, but the reality is that Malawi Queens’ head coach Peace Chawinga- Kalua and her deputy Mary Waya are not in good terms.

The two coaches’ relationship hit the rock this week when they differed on squad selection ahead of the Netball World Cup trip to Sydney, Australia. The team leaves today for Sydney.

It has transpired that there is in-fighting between Kalua and Waya.

The impasse, according to some commentators, might have negative impact on the performance of the team during the World Cup.

Netball Association of Malawi (Nam) was yesterday expected to release the World Cup squad, but it was established that other players were dropped from squad despite performing well during camp training.

According to inside sources at Nam, some players have been dropped in a controversial circumstance.

Complex Tigress goal shooter Ellen Chiboko was replaced on the list by Jane Chimaliro.

Sources say Kalua is unhappy because Nam has replaced some of the players she recommended for the trip.

Kalua told MBC Radio 2 yesterday that the squad was tampered with.

But the coach could not be reached after several attempts, whereas Waya refused to comment on the issue.

“Speak to the head coach not me,” said Waya in a telephone interview.
