Malawi Queens date England

Malawi national netball team, the Queens, are expected to travel for three test series in England in November.

The Queens are also expected to compete in Fast5 Netball World Series set for Hisense Arena in Melbourne, Australia.

Netball Association of Malawi (Nam) General Secretary, Carol Bapu, confirmed that the Queens have been invited to face the third-ranked England.

“It appears that it will be a busy summer as we have two important assignments.

“We need to do well in both events to remain a force to reckon with. Last time at Fast5, we defied all odds after claiming fourth position. This time, we should aim at doing better. As for the test series, we need to impress as they have a bearing on the world rankings,” Bapu said.

The Queens are stuck on position six in the world and second in Africa, behind South Africa, who are fifth in the world and number one in Africa. Australia are the world’s top-ranked netball team.

Meanwhile, Nam has prepared a K76 million budget for both assignments, with Bapu adding that they need K30 million for the trip to Australia and K46 million for the series in England.

“The money will cover activities such as local camping, travel expenses and players’ allowances,” Bapu said.

Recently, Malawi, minus key players such as Mwawi Kumwenda, Caroline Mtukule-Ngwira, Towera Vinkhumbo-Nyirenda, Sindie Simtowe-Msowoya and Grace Mwafulirwa- Mhango, finished as runners-up behind hosts, Uganda, during the Africa Netball Championship.
