Malawi Queens date New Zealand

Malawi National Netball Team registered their first win at the on-going Commonwealth Games when they sweated to overcome Northern Ireland 54- 41 Sunday.

However, there was no time to relax as they face New Zealand in another Group B match tonight in Birmingham, England.

It is a repeat of 2018 games when the Queens stunned the Silver Ferns who were then ranked number two in the world.

New Zealand are now ranked number one and memories are still fresh when the Queens shocked the world with a 64-45 convincing win over the Silver Ferns.

Queens Coach Peace Chawinga-Kaluwa must devise a strategy to ably use top shooters Joyce Mvula and Mwawi Kumwenda.

It appears using Mwawi as a goal attacker is not working as Queens lack balance when attacking.

The coach stated that she will use the pair according to their game plan.

During the Northern Ireland game, Queens started sluggishly by taking the first quarter 12-11.

Chawinga-Kaluwa had to reshuffle the squad taking on Mvula for Sindie Simtowe- Msowoya while Mwawi moved from goal attack to goal shooter.

In the second quarter Malawi 25-21 before extending the lead to 41-27 at the end of the third quarter.

Queens started their campaign for the Commonwealth Games poorly as they lost to hosts and defending champions England 66-41 on Saturday.

Malawi will Tuesday rest before taking on Trinidad and Tobago on Wednesday and will wrap up Group B matches with a match against Uganda.
