Malawi national netball team’s United Kingdom-based players Joyce Mvula and Lauren Ngwira rekindle hostilities tonight when their sides meet in the Vitality Super League.
Mvula’s Manchester Thunder defeated Ngwira’s London Pulse 62–47 in the first round and they travel to London for the second-leg match.
The two teams are facing contrasting fortunes with Thunder occupying the top slot with 33 points whereas Pulse anchor the 10-member log table with six points.
Both teams have played 14 games each and are coming from defeats last weekend with Thunder, at home, going down 47-50 to Severn Stars while Pulse lost 56-53 away to Surrey Storm.
Mvula, who has been in scintillating form of late, said her team is geared for the match.
“We are ready and we do not want to make any mistakes,” she said.
Ngwira was not available for a comment.
Netball Association of Malawi General Secretary, Carol Bapu, said it is an important match for both players who are key members of their respective teams.
“It is good that Lauren and Joyce are active and this will help us when they play for the Queens. We are happy that both of them have been playing well throughout. Thunder are doing well whereas Pulse are struggling a bit. But our players are doing well and this gives us hope,” Bapu said.
This is Mvula’s third season with Thunder having joined the side from Blue Eagles Sisters whereas Ngwira is playing for Pulse for the first time.
Tigresses product Ngwira competed in the same league with Team Northumbria last season.
