Malawi Queens’ opponents in action

While Malawi Netball National Team, the Queens, have slipped into hibernation, their counterparts are in the thick of things.

The Queens’ rivals, South Africa’s Spar Proteas, have been playing against giants such as New Zealand and Australia in an invitational competition dubbed Sanzea.

Malawi were excluded from the invitational competition which derives its name from the first letters of the participants.

The Queens last played competitively at the Fast5 Netball World Series in New Zealand last November and finished on a decent third-place after beating giants such as South Africa and England.

Lack of regular participation in test matches undermines the Queens’ development with the team only resurrecting when there is a competition.

Malawi are ranked sixth in the world and second in Africa behind South Africa.

Australia are the world’s number one team whereas Argentina are the least ranked on position 36 in the world.
