Malawi Queens stuck on sixth place

Inactive and almost forgotten, the Malawi Netball Queens are stuck on position six out of 36 national netball teams in the world.

On the latest ranking released last week, the Queens remain on second position out of seven national teams in Africa.

The latest ranking, which is revised thrice every year, has factored in matches played until March 19 2017.

It, therefore, comes as no surprise that the Queens are static as they last played in November 2016 in New Zealand.

During the Fast5 Netball World Series, the Queens left a huge impression, blasting aside well-resourced teams such as England to win bronze.

The Queens are yet to start preparations for the forthcoming African Netball Challenge which Uganda is expected to host later this year.

Some African teams such as Zimbabwe, Botswana and Uganda are gradually catching up with the once-invincible Queens.

South Africa’s Spar Proteas, who are rated fifth in the world and number one in Africa, remain Malawi’s biggest stumbling block to glory.

Overall, Australia, New Zealand, England and Jamaica make up the world’s top-four ranking.
