Malawi have risen by 10 steps on the world cricket rankings after last month’s success in the T20 Kwacha Cup.
Malawi went into the competition against Mozambique ranked 65th but victory in five games out of six, played in Blantyre and Lilongwe, has helped them climb to position 55.
Malawi Cricket Union President, Vivek Ganeshan, said the ranking makes the men’s team eligible for International Cricket Council World Cup qualifiers in Kenya next month.
“This is great news in the development of the game. But we must not be complacent. We still have more work to do. We need to break into the top 50. We can only achieve this if we continue to win games,” Ganeshan said.
He said they were hopeful that the ladies’ side would also rise on the rankings after beating Mozambique 4-3 during the same event.
