Malawi rolls out Sadc Trade Related Facility Project

The Ministry of Trade, Industry and Tourism has said Malawi has commenced the implementation of the European Union (EU)- funded Sadc Trade Related Facility (TRF) Project.

Secretary for Trade, Industry and Tourism, Ken Ndala, said in a statement yesterday, the objective of the project is to improve the participation of Malawi in regional and international trade by addressing bottlenecks to industrial development and trade promotion.

The implementation of the project follows the signing of a 1.4 million euros grant agreement with Sadc for the Upgrading and Modernisation of Oilseeds Cluster in Malawi and Implementation of Rules of Origin project which runs from 2017 to 2019.

“Of particular importance, the project aims at creating a more conducive environment for exports and, in so doing, improving Malawi as an investment destination, especially in the sectors prioritised in the National Export Strategy,” Ndala said.

He said one of the interventions the project is supporting is the Upgrading and Modernisation of the Oilseed Product Cluster.

“This intervention area is which is part of the process of domesticating the Sadc Industrialisation and Strategy and Roadmap and implementation of the Malawi Industrial Policy.

“With the support of Malawi Bureau of Standards, the project is supporting the harmonisation of standards and quality enhancement of all seed products,” Ndala said.
