Malawi rugby team camp in March
Malawi rugby national team will camp in March to prepare for test matches aimed at accumulating points.
The points will enable the team to participate in qualifiers for international competitions.
Malawi rugby team currently has a test status after making a comeback on the international scene last year.
After failing to play a single match last year, national team coach Augustine Banda said they are planning to host a Sevens’ international tournament in August.
“We are actually meant to participate in tests this year, but we are yet to receive the schedule from Rugby Africa. At the moment, we have a national team camp in March and June. We are just waiting for funds regarding that,” he said.
Banda added that if funds permit, the Sevens tournament in August would provide the best platform for the national team players to gain exposure.
Meanwhile, the Superior Halaal-sponsored 15s national league kicks-off on January 23 following the completion of the Sevens League last December.
