Head of Division for Southern Africa at the Ministry of Economic Cooperation in Germany, Alois Schneider, has urged the Malawi government to restore peace in the country.

Schneider made the remarks during the bilateral negotiations on development cooperation between Malawi and Germany in Lilongwe Tuesday.

“We strongly believe that there is need for dialogue among all stakeholders beyond the ongoing [election] court case. We believe this is the time for joint dialogue in order to address the underlying r cause of the evident dissatisfaction in large parts of the population,” he said.

Schneider said the German government was ready to support Malawi’s development endeavours.

Secretary to Treasury, Cliff Chiunda, said negotiations were a means of continuing the dialogue on Malawi- Germany development cooperation.

“Many factors such as rapid population growth, unequal income distribution, poor access to education and primary healthcare are constraining development in Malawi. It is my hope that we will have fruitful discussions for the betterment of the country,” he said.
