Malawi to intensify tourism marketing in North America
The Department of Tourism in the Ministry of Industry Trade and Tourism has partnered Corner sun Destination Marketing to offer tourism, public relations and representation services in the US and North America markets.
The partnership is from December 1 2017 and will run for two years.
Director of Tourism, Isaac Katopola, said the objective of the partnership is to increase awareness and enhance visibility of Malawi as a tourist destination in the USA and North America in line with the strategic tourism framework for 2017-2022 tourism strategy, which is targeting an increase in arrivals from the current 804,000 to over one million tourists.
“This is great news for Malawi tourism as it means that our marketing initiatives, done jointly with the private sector in the North American market, will be intensified,” Katopola said.
Statistics indicate that Malawi received about 50,000 tourists from the North American market in 2013 and this figure declined to 43,000 in 2015.
“This partnership, therefore, will help to increase the number of Americans travelling to Malawi, increase engagement and interaction between local tour operators and their North American counterparts as well as enable exchange of knowledge and expertise ,” Katopola said.
