Malawi Under -17 eye semis
Malawi under-17 national football team can inch closer to a Cosafa Cup semi-final berth if they beat Zimbabwe Moday, and hope that group A joint leaders and hosts, Mauritius, should lose to Botswana.
The junior Flames go into the clash buoyed by a 2-0 win over Botswana on Saturday whereas Mauritius saw off Zimbabwe 1-0 on the same day to go joint top with three points apiece.
Mauritius take on Botswana in the second match on Monday.
Therefore, a loss for the hosts and a win for Malawi would leave the junior Flames needing just a draw on Wednesday when meeting the hosts.
Despite unconvincing preparations, the junior Flames beat Botswana at the Stade St Francois Xavier, thanks to Chinsinsi Maonga and Tathedwa Willard’s goals.
On the other hand, Louis Philibert netted a magnificent free-kick for Mauritius when defeating Zimbabwe. Top two teams from each group will qualify for the semi-finals. Malawi won a bronze medal last year.
