Malawi Under-20 in tough group
Malawi Under-20 National Football Team were yesterday handed a tough draw for the Cosafa Youth Championship to be held in South Africa from December 7 to 16.
The Junior Flames, who are yet to regroup and their coaches will be named over the weekend, were thrown into Group B of death comprising neighbours Zambia and Zimbabwe.
Defending champions, South Africa, take on neighbours Lesotho, Swaziland and Botswana in Group A with the other Group C comprising Angola, Mauritius, Namibia and Seychelles. Group D consists of Mozambique, Comoros and guests Rwanda, who replaced Madagascar.
Only the top team from each pool will advance to the semifinals. The teams will play each other in a round-robin format.
One twist is that the top teams in Groups B and D after the second round of matches will play a third game as a crossover fixture between those two pools, to ensure that most competing sides get to play three times.
The top team in Group B will play the second team in Group D and vice-versa. The matches will be played at Mogwase Stadium and Moruleng Stadium in South Africa’s North-west Province.
